"The Emperor's Choice" refers to gentle, chair-based seated exercises focused on deep breathing, life-force energy (Chi) cultivation, and body regeneration.
According to legend, a frail, bedridden Chinese emperor was near death from exhaustion due to the stress of ruling despite the best care of the royal physicians. Because he could not perform the standard standing exercises, Lao Tze, a wise Taoist master taught him to circulate his Chi through slow, fluid breathing and upper-body movements right from his throne. Within weeks, the emperor was deeply transformed and overflowing with newfound vitality and clarity. The grateful sovereign declared the practice a royal treasure, which is why it is known today as the Emperor's Choice.
